K LINE has bagged a 10-year deal to ship iron ore for China"s Anshan Iron and Steel.
The Japanese line is to transport 1.5m tonnes of iron ore a year from Australia to China from October this year. The contract will last for 10 years and utilise 170,000 dwt capesize vessels.
Anshan Iron and Steel produced 23.4m tonnes of crude steel last year. Last year the company opened an integrated blast furnace plant in Yingkou on the shores of Liaodong Bay to process mainly imported iron ore.
K Line said growing its business in China was one of the most important targets in its business plan.
?Following the agreement the company aims for more opportunities to be involved in the iron ore transport business in China,? the company said.
