Two lines add to box services for Ireland
Container shipping capacity serving Ireland is set to further increase after two European shortsea and feeder operators announced new services to the island.
X-Press Container Line, the European sister company to Asian feeder operator Sea Consortium, will launch a new Southampton to Cork shuttle service this weekend.
The first sailing will be with the chartered 600 teu Dornbusch.
X-Press trade manager Paul-James Sawyer said: ?We have made a number of fundamental changes to our Ireland schedule, which means enhanced network coverage through both increased capacity and also new slot agreements with third party operators.
?This new service, which further proves our commitment to Southampton, will be a dedicated shuttle which will sail from Cork on a Friday and connect in Southampton less than 24 hours later.?
DP World Southampton senior account manager Neil Fletcher said: ?This additional weekly service will provide our deep-sea customers with another choice in how they move their boxes.?
Meanwhile, Hamburg-headquartered shipping line Team Lines has extended its coverage of Ireland with the launch of three loops connecting the deep sea hubs of Rotterdam and Felixstowe with the Irish ports of Belfast, Dublin and Cork.
The 700 teu vessels Vega Stockholm and DS Blue Wave will operate the services, with the first sailing launched earlier this week.
