More details have been emerging about an oil spill in the UK port of Southampton.

A spokesman for the Fawley Marine Terminal, where the accident happened, said half a litre of aviation fuel had been spilt into the water.

?No-one was injured and Fawley's own spill response vessels were quickly deployed. There was no impact on the environment and the appropriate authorities were on-scene to assist if required,? he told.

He explained that late on Wednesday evening a tanker bound for the BP Hamble Oil Terminal collided with two tankers berthed at the Fawley Marine Terminal.

?Two loading hoses on one of the berthed ships were damaged,? he said, adding: ?There was some damage to the berthed ships but this did not threaten containment. The integrity of the double hulled tanks on both ships was not affected in any way.?

Early reports had said only that there had been a collision and that oil had been spilled.

The vessels involved in the incident were the Valler Mosa, the BW Orinoco and the Navion Fennia.

The 2007-built 76,580 deadweight tonne (dwt) BW Orinoco is a products tanker owned and managed by the BW Shipping group.

The 1992-built 95,195 dwt Navion Fennia is an aframax shuttle tanker owned and operated by Teekay Corporation and its subsidiaries.
