Leading Indian shipyard ABG (pictured) has awarded Norwegian company Allweiler with a contract worth about $2m for complete shipsets to a series of 35, 000 dwt bulk carriers built for Germany?s Hamburg-based H. Vogemann Group.

Leading Indian shipyard ABG (pictured) has awarded Norwegian company Allweiler with a contract worth about $2m for complete shipsets to a series of 35, 000 dwt bulk carriers built for Germany"s Hamburg-based H. Vogemann Group. Allweiler is a specialist provider of a comprehensive range of screw, centrifugal and progressing cavity pumps to the merchant marine and offshore industries. Individual pump deliveries, which amount to over 350, begin this February and will continue upon newbuild completion in 2012.
?Allweiler is a dominant supplier to the Indian shipbuilding industry. In the past five to six years we have delivered complete pump packages to over 90 offshore vessels. The ABG contract is a breakthrough in the Indian merchant marine newbuild market. And, once again cements our global position,? says Geir Olimb, director of sales, Allweiler. ?We are pleased to continue a good relationship with Vogemann, which sought a complete shipboard pump solution. Allweiler is a One Stop Shop Supplier offering equipment with the highest technology backed by a quality assurance framework and provision of global technical support.?
Vogemann operates a modern fleet of dry bulk carriers with a cargo carrying capacity of about 2m dwt across a multitude of international trade routes. It is engaged in the transportation of a broad range of major and minor bulk cargoes, including iron ore, coal, grain, tapioca, cement and fertiliser and enjoys a strong demand from charterers from all around the world.
?Allweiler has established a solid presence in India. We have supplied top quality pumps for a wide variety of ship applications to leading shipyards including: Cochin, Colombo, Bharati and Tebma,? said Olimb, confirming that Allweiler"s Indian partner played a strong role in winning the order by acting as a competent local contact for the customer.
