The two parties have signed an agreement to develop facilities for the storage and transportation of chemicals at the port.
The agreement will see the construction of specialized facilities to pipe liquid chemicals to Octal's manufacturing plant in the Salalah Free Zone.
Transportation facilities are slated to include a $50-million purpose-built terminal or 'tank farm' within the port.
The development of Salalah's first liquid chemicals terminal will help boost expansion of Octal's production capacity.
Officials are also hoping for the port to eventually be recognized as a regional hub for such specialized cargoes.
A senior port official has been quoted committing investments on ?new deep-water berths and facilities that will cater to the multiple cargo types handled at the port well into the future.?
