Amity Ace agrounded in Brunswick River
The motor vessel Amity Ace remains agrounded in the Brunswick River after reportedly losing power Friday morning.
The vessel has developed a salvage plan that is currently being reviewed by the Coast Guard. If approved, an attempt to re-float the vessel with the assistance of two towing vessels will be made around 1:30 p.m. as the tide rises.
Coast Guard personnel are currently on scene and conducting an investigation. The waterway in this area has not been closed to navigation, and the next deep draft vessel is not expected to the Port of Brunswick until Saturday morning. All mariners are urged to maintain a safe distance from the Amity Ace should they need to transit this area.
On scene assessments conducted by a Coast Guard vessel and helicopter confirm reports that there is no oil pollution in the water from the Amity Ace at this time.
The Amity Ace is a 653-foot cargo vessel. Its last port of call was Veracruz, Mexico.
