This time, they have two Huon Class Mine Hunter Ships, HMAS Hawkesbury (II) and HMAS Norman (II), both berthed at the Fleet Base East Garden Island, Sydney. Both ships come with survey and conversion plans for converting them into commercial or charter cruisers or luxury yachts.
Unique to Mine Hunter vessels, the hulls are made of fibre reinforced plastic and have a unique single skin solid hull that has no ribs or frames and provides high underwater shock resistance and very low magnetic and noise levels. The hulls are designed this way to flex inwards if an undersea explosion occurs nearby. All machinery / equipment is mounted on cradles or suspended from bulkheads to further enhance resistance to shock damage and protect ship systems.
