Arkas was a participant in the 17th Quality Conference, which was held in Istanbul by KalDer with the theme ?High Quality of Worklife, Quality of Life?. At the conference, Arkas Transport was awarded a certificate for ?Commitment to Excellence? for the success it has achieved at specific stages in its pursuit of excellence.
KalDer (Turkish Quality Association) has been working to promote modern quality methods since 1991. The association held its 17th Quality Conference on November 24-26, 2008 at Lütfi K?rdar Convention and Exhibition Center in Istanbul with the theme ?High Quality of Worklife, Quality of Life?. Conference attendees shared information about current approaches, problems and solutions for managing quality at the conference, where Arkas Quality Management Assistant Director Hande Do?u gave a presentation entitled Process Management Applications and Productivity. Many participants came to the presentation, which described how Arkas companies have achieved benefits through process management and productivity projects.
Arkas Transport is committed to excellence
At the end of the conference, KalDer 2008 National Quality Awards were handed out. In addition to these awards, certificates were given to 28 corporations that had applied to the Stages of Excellence program in 2008 and that were deemed successful. KalDer handed out the certificates on behalf of the European Foundation for Quality Management. The purpose of the certificates is to motivate companies to make progress in specific areas and to identify which stage they are at in the process of achieving excellence.
Arkas Transport, which works in the area of quality management, was one of the companies awarded the Commitment to Excellence certificate because three of its projects met the necessary criteria. The first project in the area of quality management for Arkas Transport, which offers overland container transportation as the final stage of sea shipments for importers and exporters, was to formulate policies and strategies for the management process. The second project was to monitor the implementation of the proposed system. In this project, employees were able to inform the management regarding their views about the improvement and development of the business processes via a web-based program. The goal of the third project was to identify the degree of improvement in the processes and to determine areas of improvement for critical business processes. During the project, an action plan was prepared and the results of the implementation were evaluated. Arkas is determined to make progress toward the goal of achieving excellence and intends to obtain the ultimate quality award by receiving the Excellence Award.
