Bahamas crane collapse kills three
At least three people are dead and four more injured after a hurricane brought down a port crane in the Bahamas yesterday.
The accident occurred at the Freeport Container Port on the western side of Grand Bahama. According to reports from the scene, the foundation of the crane was ripped from the ground.
Two people were inside the cab when it came down and both died, said Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency director Stephen Russell.
A third person was also killed and four were injured at the port, Capt Russell confirmed. However, no further details were immediately to hand.
Freeport Container Port director Godfrey Smith declined to release the victims" names, saying company executives were still trying to contact relatives.
Elsewhere on Grand Bahama, the storm uprooted trees and blew out windows, before moving on toward Abaco island and the capital of Nassau on New Providence. No damage was immediately reported on those islands.
