BGP started 2D seismic survey offshore Cuba

BGP started 2D seismic survey offshore Cuba
The Chinese geophysical services company BGP was awarded with 2D seismic survey contract offshore Cuba.

The agreement was contracted by Cuba-Petroleo Co, conducting 2-D seismic and gravity long-offset with high resolution, covering 25,000 km in the Cuba Economic Zone of the Gulf of Mexico. The survey has been designed to acquire high quality data that will be fundamental in assisting the interpretation of the geology in the offshore Cuba, and the identification of prospective structural and stratigraphic trends that can be used for regional evaluation and future detailed seismic survey designs.

The Chinese geophysical expert BGP will deploy its vessel BGP Pioneer to conduct the survey, which is expected to complete and produce its final data in the fourth quarter of 2017. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but the agreement will be commenced until the end of the current year.

The unexplored offshore Cuba contains large areas of open acreage. The presence of an active hydrocarbon system is indicated by oil and gas shows in some of the wells.

BGP Pioneer (IMO: 8709951) has overall length of 83.70 m, moulded beam of 16.00 m and maximum draft of 7.60 m. The deadweight of the ship is 1,100 DWT and the gross tonnage is 5,739 GRT. The research and survey vessel was built in 1988 by Vard Soviknes in their shipyard in Norway.
