BUSAN BOOSTING NEW PORT
KOREA'S Busan Port Authority (BPA) is attempting to boost use of Busan New Port through fee incentives and by providing a barge link with the new port.
Container vessels will be exempted from anchorage and entrance fees if they call at both ports. The exemption is slated to last two years.
The barge-shuttle service should be in operation by the end of June, 2009. A private barge operator will be selected to run the service. The port authority will cover the barge operator's losses on carrying what are expected to initially be low volumes of cargo.
