One seafarer was injured and another one died during a mooring operation, as the Saint Vincent and Grenadines-flagged General Cargo Ship, YALIKOY attempted to berth at a Spanish port.

One seafarer was injured and another one died during a mooring operation, as the Saint Vincent and Grenadines-flagged General Cargo Ship, YALIKOY attempted to berth at a Spanish port.

The incident occurred during the morning hours of October the 8th, as the vessel was attempting to berth at the port of Sagunto, Spain.

According to initial reports, the Chief Officer of the Yalikoy was struck on the head by a snapped mooring line and was killed instantly.

The Master requested immediate medical assistance, and so a SAMU ambulance unit and a Basic Life Support were mobilized and rushed to the scene.

Unfortunately, the paramedics declared him dead as soon as they boarded the vessel.

They only managed to help the second injured crew member, who had suffered a nose wound and a bruise on one hand.

The Chief Officer Muharrem Cimen of the Yalikoy was a Turkish national.
