China seeks to accelerate green economy including shipping and ports
China’s State Council released a guideline to further accelerate the development for a green and low-carbon economy, including the ports, shipping and logistic sectors.

The guideline urges efforts to develop green and low-carbon industries comprehensively, upgrade industry, agricultural and service sectors and strengthen the recycling and utilisation of renewable resources, as well as accelerating the green upgrading of infrastructure, promoting green technology and improving environmental protection laws and regulations.

The guidelines call for the promotion of green and low-carbon logistics, including green transportation vehicles, upgrading or disposing old vessels, developing standardized construction for river cargo vessels and the green ship demonstration projects and application.

On the shoreside the accelerating shore power infrastructure construction at ports, deepening green cooperation for Road and Belt Initiatives, developing technology and equipment for environment protection and clean energy, and advance the green port and shipping channels construction.

By 2025, China expects to see a significant rise in the scale of green industries and a continued drop in major pollutants, according to the guidelines.

The nation aims to hit peak carbon emissions at around 2030 and realize carbon neutrality by 2060.
