Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, also known as ClassNK, is world first with the total tonnage of the ships on its register surpassing the 160 million gross ton mark.

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, also known as ClassNK, is most pleased to announce another world first with the total tonnage of the ships on its register surpassing the 160 million gross ton mark for the first time ever this past November. During its monthly meeting on 24 December, the Classification Committee officially confirmed that the Society had 7,017 ships with a total of 160,522,744 gross tons on its register as of the end of November 2008. This builds upon the notable achievement made last year of becoming the first classification society ever to have more than 150 million gross tons under class. It is also expected that the gross amount of tonnage of all ships entering the ClassNK register in 2008 will exceed the previous record of 15 million gross tons achieved in 2006.

?This accomplishment reflects the abiding trust that our clients have in the quality of our services?, noted Chairman and President Noboru Ueda. He went on to say that ?this result also reflects the commitment of everyone within the Society to provide the best possible service to meet the needs of our clients around the world.?

Strong relations with a growing number of ship owners and yards around the globe have been key to the positive results that this new achievement represents, for which we are most grateful. For its part, ClassNK stands ready to do all it can in partnership with stakeholders around the world to weather challenges as they may arise in order that we may all realize an even brighter future in the years to come.
