French container line CMA CGM is studying the possibility of collaboration with Deutsche Bahn.
CMA CGM boss Jacques Saadé said he plans to meet the German train operator at the end of February to discuss the matter.
Deutsche Bahn, Europe"s largest rail cargo carrier, already has a presence in France with a co-operation agreement with SNCF, and through Euro Cargo Rail, a subsidiary of the UK"s EWS.
Deutsche Bahn declined to comment on the German press reports, but CMA CGM confirmed Mr Saadé"s intentions.
CMA CGM is active in the rail cargo business via Rail Link Europe, a joint venture with Veolia. Mr Saadé told German daily Handelsblatt that he was dissatisfied with the development of the joint venture as it was not feeding enough containers to CMA CGM"s vessels.
However, Rail Cargo Europe will not be dissolved. ?We will continue to co-operate with Veolia,? said Mr Saadé.
