Container ship MSC Mirella adrift off Milos Island in Greece
The container ship MSC Mirella lost propulsion power after engine failure on 7 nautical miles southwest off the island of Milos in Greece.

he vessel was en route from Piraeus to Mersin, when suffered blackout and remain adrift. The accident was reported to local authorities and at the scene was sent rescue boat, which should monitor the condition of the container carrier. Another vessel of the company, MSC Ravenna, was in vicinity and went on standby at the accident site until arrival of the salvors. The container ship MSC Mirella with 27 crew members on board were in good health and without reported injuries. The engineers were working to repair the engine trouble and trying to restart the propulsion power.

The salvors Vernicos Tugs & Salvage and Lymbousakis Salvage and Towage deployed at the scene two tugs Alexander 3 and Apollon, which will tow the ship to Greek coast and will assess the situation. Also they should ensure safety of the ship and prevention of any environment pollution.

The local authorities are monitoring the condition of the container ship and stay in contact with the duty officer. The investigation is under way, but there is no immediate danger for the seaworthiness of the ship.

The container ship MSC Mirella (IMO: 8709640) has overall length of 177.60 m, moulded beam of 32.20 m and maximum draft of 10.10 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 25,904 DWT and the gross tonnage is 27,103 GRT with capacity for 2,058 TEU. The container ship was built in 1989 by Uljanik Shipyard in Pula, Croatia.
