China will continue to tighten its control on small coal mine so as to ensure work safety in coal mining activities across the county, sources reported. Luo Lin, director the State Administration of Work Safety, said China will shut down 1,000 small coal mines this year as planned.
Large coal miners are encouraged to take over small ones so as to consolidate the coal mining industry in the country, sources said.
In August, China saw seven gas-triggered accidents in coal mines with annual production capacity below 300,000 tons.
In the first seven months of this year, China produced 1.61 billion tons of raw coal and sold nearly 1.49 billion tons of coal during the period, representing a growth of 8.9% and 2.23% from a year earlier, respectively.
Meanwhile, the number of coal mine accidents in China amounted to 749, which claimed 1,175 lives.
