DANISH SHIPOWNER ASSOCIATIONS NEW CHAIRMAN
CEO Lars Vang Christensen, Herning Shipping, has replaced Torben Janholt, CEO of J. Lauritzen, as chairman of Danish Shipowners' Association.
Carsten Mortensen, CEO of D/S Norden, has been elected new vice chair. After four years as chairman of Danish Shipowners' Association, Torben Janholt last week left the chair to Lars Vang Christensen, who is CEO of Herning Shipping. This is the first time in many years, that a smaller shipping company takes on the chair.
Lars Vang Christensen said in his speech on the press conference on Thursday, that these are difficult times for shipping, but the Shipowners' Association believes the bottom has been reached. At the same time, he was pleased that shipping now is Denmark's largest export industry.
The new chair said, that he during the next four years, will be working on maintaining the competitive capacity of Danish shipping and that we deliver the quality shipping, which has been spoken of for so long.
"I want to protect Danish values and the Danish flag", said the new chair.
The retiring chairman Torben Janholt acknowledged that he had not reached all of his goals during his time as chair.
"But it is because I am very impatient and would like to have accomplished more" said Janholt, who modestly had to let the Shipowners' Association's managing director, Peter Bjerregaard reprove him as Bjerregaard emphasised the many results made during Janholts four years in office.
Torben Janholt continues as ordinary member of the board, while Knud Pontoppidan after 16 years of membership leaves the board. Also Klaus Kjaerulff leaves the board. Soren Skou, A.P. Moller-Maersk is elected as new member, as is Mikael Skov, D/S Torm.
