Giuseppe Bottiglieri has celebrated the addition of another vessel to the fleet, marking the fourth newbuild delivery this year as part of a rigorous investment programme totalling $600 million. The new 93,500 tonnes dwt post-panamax bulk carrier, the Bottiglieri Challenger, is the fourth sister vessel among ten units ordered at Chinese ship yard New Jiangsu Yangzijiang, launched just a few weeks after the recently delivered Bottiglieri Ambition.
Set to be employed on the main international iron ore, coal and grain routes, the vessel is a demonstration of the company"s deep trust in the future restoration of the shipping markets in building a modern dry cargo fleet in advance by 2014, when the expansion of the Panama Canal will be completed.
The launching of the vessel was attended by Giuseppe Bottiglieri himself as Chairman and CEO of the company, alongside his wife Gaetana Cozzolino, board member of the shipowning company and designated godmother of the vessel.
Underlining the importance of investing in the future economy for the sakes of the Italian maritime cluster, Mrs Cozzolino said: ?Even if the Italian shipping world has always been characterised by traditional and family values, it is also a dynamic industry, requiring a constant and prompt adjustment to the global market needs and to the tonnage demand.
?As godmother, I hope the Bottiglieri Challenger will be able to satisfy such needs, symbolising the fruitful cooperation between China and Italy, whose ship owners have been facing the demanding challenges of globalisation with strong professionalism and enthusiasm,? she added.
