Ohio Green Workforce Training Partnership awarded $100,000 to launch Weatherization Training Partner.

Ohio Green Workforce Training Partnership awarded $100,000 to launch Weatherization Training Partner.

Partnership Supports the Growth of Community Weatherization Programs and New Jobs in Ohio United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined the National Community Action Foundation (NCAF) and ExxonMobil to award the Ohio Green Workforce Training Partnership with the inaugural grant from the NCAF ExxonMobil Weatherization Training Partnership. The Partnership will receive $100,000 to establish a first-of-its-kind training program that will prepare workers for a career in the growing fields of weatherization and energy efficiency. The announcement took place at the home of Mrs. Twyla Simpson, a local resident receiving weatherization services.

Speaking at the event, Senator Brown said, ?The weatherization program employs Ohio workers, using Ohio products, to lower energy costs for Ohio homeowners,? Brown said. ?This program is not just about reducing energy use?it"s about job creation and economic development in Northeast Ohio.?

?The NCAF ExxonMobil weatherization training grant gives us the chance to engage new partners from across sectors to provide local weatherization workers with the very best training Ohio has to offer,? Roger McCauley, Executive Director of the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development said.

David Bradley, executive director of the National Community Action Foundation said, ?NCAF and ExxonMobil are proud to launch our weatherization training partnership in Ohio, a great state that shares our goal of increasing America"s energy security, creating new job opportunities in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner, and helping low-income families reduce their energy costs.?

The NCAF ExxonMobil Weatherization Training Partnership, created with $5 million from ExxonMobil, is a competitive grant program that will support advanced training models for weatherization workers that utilize creative curricula, innovative partnerships and cutting edge technologies. The Partnership seeks to increase America"s energy efficiency and stimulate job creation and economic growth by creating a sustainable green collar career path for weatherization workers.

Mark Boudreaux, senior director for federal relations from ExxonMobil said, "While current weatherization training programs are making notable progress, NCAF and ExxonMobil wanted to take this important initiative to the next level. Through our Weatherization Training Partnership, we hope to enhance weatherization training by supporting new models that bring together expertise from across sectors, including community action agencies, federal, state and local governments, workers, environmental groups and the private sector."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed earlier this year provided $5 billion to the Department of Energy"s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program which enables low-income Americans to reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. DOE"s program supports state weatherization programs that are implemented by approximately 900 local community agencies represented by NCAF. The NCAF ExxonMobil Weatherization Training Partnership will enhance the long term impacts of the stimulus by providing workers with skills and knowledge to pursue opportunities beyond publicly funded weatherization programs.
