Ferry Beaumont Hamel suffered engine failure off Bell Island in Canada
The ferry Beaumont Hamel suffered engine failure shortly after leaving Portugal Cove in Canada en route to Bell Island.

The vessel remained adrift in the strait, but fortunately crew succeeded to reacted immediately and dropped anchor to prevent grounding or any other damages. The ship’s engineers assessed the situation and succeeded to repair the engine trouble just within more than an hour. After returning the propulsion power, the ferry Beaumont Hamel lift anchor and resumed the voyage to Bell Island, arriving with more than two hours delay. During the incident there were no reported injuries and no water pollution.

The local authorities were monitoring the vessel during the breakdown of the main aggregate and were ready to assist if necessary. Fortunately the crew repaired the problem by their own means and resumed the voyage. The vessel was inspected by the authorities and was estimated that can return in service.

The ferry Beaumont Hamel (IMO: 8407656) has overall length of 53.00 m, moulded beam of 12.70 m and maximum draft of 3.50 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 215 DWT and the gross tonnage is 831 GRT. The ship was built in 1985 by Marystown Shipyard in Canada and operate en route from Portugal Cove to Bell Island.
