The first indigenous ship building project M?LGEM staged in Turkey

As part of MILGEM Project handled by Secretariat of defense industries, the first Turkish littoral combat warship ?TCG Heybeliada? corvette, that is produced by local capabilities, will be launched tomorrow with a ceremony which Abdullah Gül will attend.
27 September,470. anniversary of Battle of Preveza and Turkish Naval Forces Day has been preffered for putting ?TCG Heybeliada? to sea as the part of the Turkish corvette program; the purpose of which is to build a modern littoral combat warship with indigenous capabilities, extensively using the principles of stealth technology in its design, in the direction of Turkish Naval Forces.
M?LGEM is the first indigenous ship building project staged in Turkey. Turkish Navy is responsible for the initial design and for the determining technical specification of the weapon, sensor, machinery and other sub systems. SSM is responsible of purchasing these systems.
The missions of M?LGEM class are showing the flag, search/rescue, patrol, observation and anti submarine warfare. The sonar to be used on M?LGEM class will be produced in Turkey. The 12,7mm machine guns will be mounted of ASELSAN build STAMP (Stabilized Machine Gun Platform). These gun will be controlled remotely. The keel of the first ships TCG HEYBEL?ADA was laid on 26th July 2005 in Istanbul Naval Ship Yard.
The ceremony will be hold ?stanbul Shipyard Command.
