HHIC Philippines Wins Order for Aframax Tanker Duo

HHIC Philippines Wins Order for Aframax Tanker Duo
Subic-based Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction – Philippines (HHIC-Phil) has recently inked a newbuilding contract for a pair of 114,000 dwt crude oil tankers amid signs of recovery in the global shipbuilding industries.

Featuring 249,9 meters in length and 44 meters in breadth, the tankers would be built in compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) nitrogen oxides (IMO NOx Tier III) requirements.

The Aframax contract, signed with an undisclosed shipowner, comes on the back of the shipbuilder’s delivery of its first 300,000 dwt very large crude carrier (VLCC) to an American shipping company in January 2017 and the newbuild orders for four 320,000 dwt VLCCs in the last month, the yard said.

“Challenges still abound even though there is an indication of the market picking up, but we remain dedicated as ever in turning these struggles into a window of opportunities by capitalizing on our Subic shipyard’s competitive edge that earned the praise of our clients overseas,” HHIC-Phil officials said.

HHIC-Phil added that it “is likely to be in discussion with reputable shipowners for further tanker orders.”
