Hutchison wins Fos 4XL contract
Hutchinson Port Holdings has been awarded the rights to develop the Fos 4XL container terminal at the French Mediterranean port.
?The twin hub concept introduced by HPH convinced the French port executive management of the strategic interest of this concept,? said a spokesman for the supervisory board of the port of Marseille Fos authority, which awarded the contract.
Fos 4XL will be developed by Hong Kong-based Hutchison as a Mediterranean twin hub for the group"s container facilities at the Dutch port of Rotterdam, and will be linked to its ?sister terminal by a comprehensive multimodal network?.
Port of Marseille Fos officials said: ?This green and state-of-the-art terminal will support an ambitious strategy of Euro-Mediterranean consolidation.?
The ?600m ($810m) terminal will have a 1,200 m quay length and 75 ha of yard space, adding a minimum 1m teu of capacity in Marseille Fos.
Construction and operation of the new terminal will be ?aligned with market demand? and Fos 4XL is not expected to begin commercial operations before 2017.
The port launched the Fos 4XL tender process in February 2008.
