The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained two ships suspected of illegally transferring fuel in the Pengerang waters, 2.8 nautical miles off southern Tanjung Setapa on Sunday. In a statement, MMEA (southern region) enforcement chief Che Hassan Jusoh said the incident occured at 11.38am, when MT Rahmah 1 transferred 1,000 litres of fuel to MT Jet which did not have shipping documents.

He said initial investigations revealed there were 303,000 litres of fuel on MT Rahmah 1, an Indonesian vessel registered in Panama.

Another ship, MT KTOS II, which does not have shipping documents, was detained in the vicinity for failing to pay light dues.

Seventeen Indonesian crewmen fom the three ships were detained to facilitate investigations.
