IMEC TO FOCUS ON TRAINING
The International Maritime Employers' Committee is to launch a ?major? focus on training initiatives.
The decision was taken at IMEC"s AGM, where it was agreed that although the IMEC focus traditionally had been on wage negotiations, in future IMEC should concentrate equally on recruitment and training issues in the principal labour supply countries.
The industry group now includes 132 members operating over 7,000 ships and employing 185,600 seafarers. Chairman Ian Sherwood said: ?IMEC's continued overall growth in membership shows we are dealing with the key issues of recruitment and training and we are providing a service that ship owners, managers and operators value.?
