Indonesian product tanker hijacked

Indonesian product tanker hijacked
An Indonesian product tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel has been hijacked in Malaysian waters.

The Vier Harmoni has since moved back into Indonesian territory, near the island of Batam, according to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

The identity of the hijackers has yet to be identified but unlike the spate of other recent piracy activity in Southeast Asia this latest attack does not bear the hallmarks of the Philippine Muslim group, Abu Sayyaf.

The Indonesian flagged 950 dwt ship is owned by Jakarta-headquartered Vierlines.
