Keppel delivers Floatel rig early.
Singapore's Keppel FELS has delivered the semisubmersible accommodation rig, Floatel Superior, to Floatel International 43 days early.
The vessel will depart Singapore on a 14-day transit to Bayu Undan in the Timor Sea where it will start its maiden charter contract for ConocoPhillips Australia.
Construction of a second accommodation rig, Floatel Reliance, is progressing well ready for delivery of the vessel in the second half of this year.
Both have been built to the DSS 20NS design, developed and owned by Keppel"s Deepwater Technology Group and Marine Structure Consultants which merge Keppel"s semisubmersible drilling rig and accommodation unit designs.
Floatel International chief executive Peter Jacobsson said: ?Floatel Superior is the first North Sea accommodation rig built in over 20 years."
The vessel, which features 440 single cabins with mess, recreation rooms and other facilities, has a telescopic gangway for the safe transit of personnel and goods to and from the rig. The gangway can be extended or shortened by 7.5m, allowing the vessel to remain connected in severe weather conditions.
