Kongsberg wins contract to upgrade Tidewater offshore supply vessel

Kongsberg wins contract to upgrade Tidewater offshore supply vessel
Norwegian marine technology firm Kongsberg has secured a contract from Tidewater Marine to supply a ‘full picture’ hybrid upgrade for its offshore supply vessel (OSV) Bailey Tide.

Norwegian marine technology firm Kongsberg has secured a contract from Tidewater Marine to supply a ‘full picture’ hybrid upgrade for its offshore supply vessel (OSV) Bailey Tide. Kongsberg will supply and deploy K-Pos Dynamic Positioning (DP), Advanced Generator Supervisor (AGS) and K-Chief 700 Integrated Automation System (IAS) upgrades. According to Kongsberg, implementation of new technologies will boost energy efficiency, streamline power management and improve positioning manoeuvres of Bailey Tide.

Kongsberg Maritime Singapore sales manager Deepak Thomas said: “We are hugely looking forward to collaborating with Tidewater on this project. Our AGS software functionality has also proved its worth across the Tidewater fleet in mitigating blackouts and increasing the reliability and safety of the power management system, and we’re keen to assist the company in progressing ever further in the pursuit of environmentally responsible, cost-effective energy efficiency.”

The hybrid solution is expected to considerably reduce operational expenses by cutting the vessel’s fuel consumption.

Reduction in fuel consumption will also lead to reduced emissions of CO₂, NOx and SOx, and help Tidewater Marine meet industry requirements.

Tidewater Marine chief operating officer Jeff Gorski said: “Kongsberg’s comprehensive hybrid upgrade positions us as a pioneer in the OSV sector in helping our clients to meet strict environmental regulations, due to be introduced in 2020, for decreasing CO₂, NOx and SOx emissions.”

Along with the hybrid upgrade, the technology vendor will also deploy a Kongsberg Information Management System (K-IMS). Designed as an interactive and collaborative web-based platform, the K-IMS will continuously provide Tidewater Marine and its sub-suppliers data access, both on board and at the shore. Work on Bailey Tide is currently under progress and is expected to be finished by May next year. Recently, Kongsberg Maritime opened an office at the Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship (COVE) to further support its Canadian operations.
