The government is planning to move all discharge and loading activities at the Pakistani ports of Karachi and Keamari to a single-buoy mooring facility offshore at Khalifa Point in the Balochistan hub, Fairplay reported.

The single-buoy mooring is slated to move oil to the mainland via a two kilometre-long pipeline.
?The draft of Karachi Port and Port Qasim is not sufficient to cater to large ships,? Asim Hussain, the petroleum advisor to the Prime Minister was quoted saying.
?Import of crude through large ships will save time and money for importers,? said Hussain, who also highlighted ?serious strategic concerns? about large oil storage facilities in Karachi which is near Pakistani Navy installations.
Hussain added that plans for the offshore discharge facility have been on the table for a ?long time?, and any further delay would increase costs.
