ClassNK Releases New Guidelines for laser beam arc hybrid welding.
Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) is pleased to announce the publication of a new guideline entitled, Guidelines for laser beam arc hybrid welding. A ship is a large welded construction that operates in the corrosive environment of seawater and is subject to rigorous loads such as impact loads, fatigue loads, and bending loads from waves. To ensure the safety of the ship and to prevent marine pollution, it is vitally important to establish the quality of welded joints.
Presently, welding processes used in shipyards mainly consist of CO2 semi-automatic welding and submerged arc welding, but in recent years, high performance welding processes are being developed and realized with the aim of enhancing both efficiency during welding work and the quality of welded joints.
Under such circumstances, the practical application of laser beam arc hybrid welding, a high performance welding process, to the shipbuilding field is being studied. Laser beam arc hybrid welding is a high quality welding process notable for realizing high efficiency in welding work that can inhibit thermal deformation. Its future diffusion in the shipbuilding is highly anticipated.
ClassNK has newly prepared the Guidelines for laser beam arc hybrid welding for unified approval of welding procedure of laser beam arc hybrid welding and related welding procedure specifications applicable to hull structural members.
ClassNK Offers New Online Survey and Audit Application Service Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) is pleased to announce the start of a new on-line survey and audit application service called ?e-Application? from 1 February 2010.
Users can access the service via the Web Service Portal page of the ClassNK website or through NK-SHIPS, the Society"s on-line ship survey and ISM/ISPS information search service, to apply for the following types of surveys or audits:
1. Class and statutory surveys of existing ships,
2. ISM/ISPS ship audits, as well as
3. ISM company audits.
Using ClassNK"s new e-Application service allows registered ship owners and managers to apply for surveys and audits directly on-line, thereby making the application process much more convenient. Moreover, the link between e-Application and NK-SHIPS services ensures that no survey due dates are missed.
Registered users of NK-SHIPS will be able to access the e-Application service to submit survey and audit applications directly from 1 February 2010 onwards.
