Latest Bottiglieri bulker launched
Neapolitan bulk carrier and tanker owner Giuseppe Bottiglieri Shipping Company launched the fifth of a series of post-panamax bulkers at China"s New Jiangsu Yangzijiang shipyard on Wednesday.
The 93,500 dwt Paola Bottiglieri will be followed by five more sisterships before the end of 2011 as well as a 180,000 dwt capesize. The total value of the company"s newbuilding programme runs to $600m.
Company president Giuseppe Bottiglieri noted that the newbuildings were designed to prepare the company for the expansion of the Panama Canal, which is due to be completed by 2014.
He claimed that the new ships, which have the same length and speed of a traditional panamax but an additional 19,000 tonnes of cargo capacity, ?will make us considerably more competitive?.
