Maersk Shipping HK wins Green Innovative Award 2010

Maersk Shipping Hong Kong has bagged the Hong Kong Shipping Registry's Green Innovative Award 2010 for its efforts to operate environmentally friendly vessels. Maersk was applauded for its Quest software (quality and energy efficiency in storage and transport) which provides a new temperature control system enabling up to 50% lower energy consumption per refrigerated container, and the slow steaming initiative of which Maersk was a pioneer.

Mr Tim Smith Maersk Line's North Asia region chief said that "This award is important because it reflects a rapidly developing movement towards sustainable shipping in the Asia Pacific region. Maersk is taking the lead in cutting greenhouse gases emissions and reducing its carbon footprint while going beyond the call of international regulations through proactive and innovative measures."

Mr Dipak Dash MD of Maersk Shipping Hong Kong said that its investment in green projects with its clients have paid off. He added that "These visible measures are turning eco efficiency into eco advantage for Maersk, where the brand is furthering its collective value proposition to our customers and to the communities we live and work in.
