Marport handled its 5 millionth TEU in 2007
Since its establishment in 1996, Marport"s operations have drawn much attention and it has kicked off 2007 by reaching an important milestone. Marport serviced its 9000th vessel and handled its 5 millionth TEU.
Since it began providing services in the Ambarl? region in 1996, Marport has become Turkey"s largest container terminal. With a number of investments made to increase capacity in the last 10 years, Marport has achieved incredible success and a growth rate of 22% in 2006. In March of 2007, this growth has brought the total number of vessels serviced by Marport to 9000. It also handled its 5 millionth TEU thus reaching a new milestone.
Marport"s capacity continues to increase
Since 2001, a total of 350 million dollars has been invested giving Marport Terminals the capacity to handle 962,913 TEU in 2006 and making it the busiest container terminal in Turkey. Marport's capacity has reached 1.5 million TEU with service at international standards.
With a draft of 14.5 meters, Marport is Turkey"s only deep water terminal and can service post-panamax vessels. With a total area of 409,000 m2 and storage capacity for 25,000 TEU, Marport employs 4 SSG, 25 RTG cranes and 13 mobile cranes. In the next few months 10 more RTG"s will be deployed and there are plans to add 4 more SSG"s in 2008.
