But "from today the world of luxury superyachts is open for ladies as well," according to Lidia Bersani, a designer who has drawn up plans for the first superyacht aimed solely at women.
Bersani has turned her luxury interior design skills to produce La Belle a concept design for a "elegant and feminine superyacht".
The 80 meter boat is designed for 12 people, boasts 5 decks, a master bedroom with a large circular bed, and five guest suites. On board is a beauty center, disco, cinema, bars and a well-equipped spa.
"Today luxury yachts are primarily focusing on the entertainment and sports of men, with or without their girlfriends," Bersani told CNBC via an email.
"I am a lady myself, that mean I understand the desires, dreams and tastes of women very well. I can tell you, we are not dreaming of watching football with a glass of whisky while smoking a cigar," Bersani said.
The lavish interior is designed with gold and crystal and even has been designed with a "gold-plated helicopter pad", according to the designer.
"I am afraid La Belle will not be cheap," she said, adding that she is considering asking a top European shipbuilder to take on the project and will then be able to get the final price for the mega yacht.
Bersani seems to have a case that the superyacht industry is a "man's world". The 10 biggest yachts in the world are all owned by men. Since releasing the designs, Bersani said she had "quite a few" questions about future chartering of the vessel.
Industry experts said there is certainly a market for yachts aimed specifically at women.
"I can think of at least two dozen women owners. I don't know how many in total. I should think there are couple of hundred at least," Benjamin Maltby, owner of Matrix Lloyds, an advisory firm for potential yacht owners, told CNBC.
$106M price tag?
It's hard to predict the cost of a superyacht before it's built, but Maltby said it could come with a £70 million ($106 million) price tag.
However, luxury analysts noted that the design is quite extravagant and may not suit all women, but clearly shows the appetite for female-orientated designs.
"From an aesthetic point of view it is clearly intended for the Arab or Russian market. It is extremely over the top and looks like Versace and Liberace rolled into one," Winston Chesterfield, associate director at Ledbury Research, told CNBC by phone.
"The design doesn't reflect the absolute perception of exactly what women want but is calling out the fact that this has been a male-dominated market."
