Dow Jones' seven-day winning streak ends

US stocks close mixed after Brussels attacks

American stocks closed mixed on Tuesday as investors worry about terrorist attacks in the Belgian capital of Brussels.

The Dow lost 41 points to end at 17,582 and the S&P 500 fell 2 points to close at 2,049. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq rose 13 points to finish the day at 4,821.

With the decline in the Dow, the index ended seven days of consecutive gain -- its longest winning streak since October 2015.

There was volatility in the oil market as well. American benchmark West Texas Intermediate moved between $40.78 - $41.85 per barrel during the day to mark a 0.4 percent decrease.

International benchmark Brent crude fluctuated between $40.98 - $42.03 a barrel to gain 0.6 percent.

Stocks of some airline and travel companies also had losses following the attacks.

Delta Air Lines fell to $49.39 per share after losing 1.49 points and Royal Caribbean Cruises had a 2.24 point decline to close at $75.99.
