Nasco orders Supramax bulkers
The Chinese state-backed shipowner Jiangsu-based Nanjing Ocean Shipping Co (Nasco) is understood to have ordered four Supramax bulkers from a Shanghai-based yard. A Nasco source said that the company is still hungry for more newbuildings. He said: ?We have booked three and will book another in a few months. We are looking at maybe another five Supramaxes. We have the funding in place for this.?
Nasco has reportedly purchased two Supramax resales this year that were originally ordered by Greece's Evalend Shipping in 2007 for $34 million each. The company was said to have picked up the 57,000 dwt bulker Vale (built 2010) for $31.5 million but a Nasco official said that, although the ship was inspected, no commitment had been made. Last month, brokers linked the company to the purchase of the sistership Tomahawk and suggested a price of $31m. The vessels are under construction at Qinshan Shipyard in Wuhan in Hubei province.
