Shipping container company Maersk Line said it will soon start services from Pipavav port in Gujarat to connect Gulf, Mediterranean and European markets with a view to facilitate trade from North and North West India. ?Maersk Line is the only carrier to provide a direct service from Pipavav into the Middle East and Mediterranean ports,'' Maersk India Managing Director, Mr Rizwan Soomar said in a release.

The service would begin from April 6, the release said.

Shippers from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat would have a direct service coverage into the Mediterranean ports and Gulf from Pipavav, it said.

?This direct service from Pipavav will help our customers from North and North West India more efficiently realise opportunities that the growing Middle East and Mediterranean markets offer,'' Mr Soomar added.
