First oil from the UK Athena development is coming closer with the arrival of the production ship at the field location.

Operator Ithaca Energy reports today that the BW Athena FPSO has now arrived at the UK field location after completing a refit in the Middle East and the ships has already been hooked up to the STP -submerged turret production - mooring system at the field location.

Currently Ithaca reports that testing of subsea systems is underway, and a testing is underway of the shuttle tanker offloading system, and a production well ramp-up programme is underway.

“Hook-up and infield commissioning activities are ongoing and a further announcement will be made upon delivery of first oil from the field,” Ithaca stated today.

Athena is due to produce from four pre-drilled production wells and a water injection well, tied back to the newly re-fitted BW Athena FPSO in UK block 14/18b.

Oil will be offloaded by shuttle tanker and exported to Scotland's Nigg oil terminal – operated by Ithaca.
