Drilling on PL577, in block 6506/11, the Cooper well is located in the Norwegian Sea in the Halten Terrace region and situated between the Smørbukk oil field to the east, and the Morvin oil field, which lies to the west.
Drilling partner Faroe Petroleum, which has 30% equity in the well, said the Cooper prospect consists of a untested north to south trending fault block with main reservoir objectives similar to Smørbukk and Morvin, consisting of Middle Jurassic Garn and Ile formations.
Faroe is currently involved in the UK West of Shetland North Uist exploration well, which is ongoing, and is to spud on its 40% operated Clapton prospect in the Norwegian North Sea soon.
