Field operator Xcite Energy said the Bentley 9/3b-7 production well has been drilled to a total depth of 6,684 feet (2,037 metres).
After a well liner has been set, cemented and pressure tested, the forward plan is to drill into the reservoir section of the field.
Meanwhile work is underway to install a 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mile) export pipeline from the well – drilled by the Rowan Norway jackup – to a shuttle tanker, the Ocean Spirit.
Ocean Spirit is on hire from Teekay Navion Offshore, and the tanker is to operate as an in-field storage and offtake facility for Bentley crude oil, during Phase 1A of the Bentley field development programme which is now underway.
Xcite also reported today that a contract has been secured with Norway's Ocean Installer AS to install the 1.8 km export line, using the Polar Prince vessel -– on hire from Reef Subsea – which is currently in Peterhead just north of Aberdeen, preparing for the pipe-lay programme.
