Eni counts Coral 1 as another major new gas find, saying this well is of “particular significance,”  since the well is thought to have discovered between 7 and 10 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, which is exclusively located in Area 4 and confirms a new exploration play, which is independent of the in previous Mamba discovery.

 “With these new results at Coral 1, Eni estimates that the resources exclusively located in Area 4 range between 15 and 20 tcf of gas in place,” the company declared, adding: “The new discovery further increases the total potential of the Mamba complex discovered so far in Area 4 Offshore Rovuma, which is now estimated to hold between 47 and 52 tcf of gas in place.”

 Coral 1 was drilled 65 kilometres off the Mozambique coast from Capo Delgado, in a water depth of 2,261 metres, (7,416 feet) to a depth of 4,869 metres (15,970 ft) and encountered 75 m (246 ft) of natural gas pay.

 Coral 1 is also 26 km (16 miles) south east from the Mamba South 1 discovery, and the new find is to be production tested soon, Eni has indicated.

 Eni operates the Area 4 territory with 70% and its partners are Galp Energia, Kogas, and ENH all with with 10%.
