NOL woos Eng back to head APL

NEPTUNE Orient Lines has lured IMC Corp deputy chief Eng Aik Meng back to the fold as head of its liner unit APL.

Not much more than a year after leaving NOL to join the Tsao family"s IMC Corp Mr Eng is returning to the company as chief executive of APL, a position vacated by Ron Widdows when he was appointed president and chief executive of NOL last month.

In his new role Mr Eng will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the world"s seventh largest container shipping line, also NOL"s main revenue and profit earner, and will rejoin the company at an unspecified date later this year.

?Aik Meng has a deep knowledge of APL"s business and its customers. We have worked together closely over many years and I am confident Aik Meng will provide strong leadership for APL and bring valuable skills to NOL"s senior management team,? said Mr Widdows.

It is the first top level appointment made by Mr Widdows, since he took over the top job at NOL on June 7, following the sudden resignation of Thomas Held.

Mr Eng worked for NOL between 1993 and 2007, and held the post of APL"s senior vice president of intra-Asian trade from 2002 to 2007. Previously he headed NOL"s strategic planning division and held a variety of roles in corporate finance.
