NTSB Opens Public Docket in Golden Ray Investigation
The docket, released Thursday, contains 96 items totaling over 1,700 pages, including interview transcripts, photographs and other investigative materials.

The National Transportation Safety Board has opened the public docket for its ongoing investigation 2019 capsizing of roll-on/roll-off vehicle carrier Golden Ray near Brunswick, Georgia.

The docket, released Thursday, contains 96 items totaling over 1,700 pages, including interview transcripts, photographs and other investigative materials.

The 656-foot Golden Ray had a pilot and 23 crew members on board when it capsized suddenly during a turn as it departed the Port of Brunswick on September 8, 2019, coming to rest on a sand bar. All crew members and the pilot were rescued, including four crew members stuck in the engine room for more than a day following the capsizing.

The U.S. Coast Guard previously held a public hearing into the accident in September 2020. The Coast Guard is jointly conducting its own investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Korean Maritime Safety Tribunal, representatives for Hyundai Glovis and G-Marine, and the Brunswick Bar Pilots Association.

Wreck removal of the vessel is on-going to this day.
