UK OIL major BP has shut down oil production at its $1bn Schiehallion ship in the west of Shetland region of Scotland after a collision involving a shuttle tanker.

The Loch Ranoch tanker, which usually shuttles crude from the Schiehallion floating production storage and offloading vessel to a Scottish terminal, struck part of the vessel last week.

BP halted production from the FPSO and is reviewing the damaged caused by the collision.

The Loch Ranoch is moored up in Sullom Voe, where damage to the ship is being appraised.

A BP spokesman said production would remain closed until the Schiehallion has been repaired.

It informed the Health & Safety Executive and Marine and Coastguard Agency of the incident.
