Azerbaijan produced 33.5 million metric tons of crude oil in January-August, up 6.3% on the year, Azerbaijan's state statistics agency said late Thursday. That is a daily average of 1.01 million barrels for the period. The consortium led by BP PLC (BP) that operates Azerbaijan's Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block in the Caspian Sea produced 27.8 million tons in the first eight months of the year, up 8.0% on the year, the agency said.
Azerbaijan's gas output over the eight months increased 0.6% on the year to 15.67 billion cubic meters, of which the BP-led consortium produced 6.89 billion cubic meters, up by 23%.
Last year, Azerbaijan produced 44.5 million tons of crude oil, or 893,658 barrels a day. Gas production stood at 22.85 billion cubic meters.
Azerbaijani officials forecast 2009 crude production of between 46 million and 47 million tons.
