Onurhan Denizcilik to apply to appeal court.
While France is considering to release Turkish ship that has been held since 2007 after a collision with fishing vessel, Onurhan Denizcilik is preparing to apply appeal court for inappopriate investigation of the issue and believe that the seizure of the vessel by France is illegal and that the case against the vessel should be handled by its flag state, Kiribati.
According to French records The skipper of the fishing vessel died in the incident and the French judicial authorities said at the time that there were grounds for thinking that the merchant vessel had fled the scene without offering assistance to the seven-man crew of Sokalique.
The vessel, which had continued on its southbound route after the accident despite attempts to contact it by the French authorities, was finally persuaded to come into the port of Brest after the French authorities contacted its operator, Istanbul-based Onurhan Denizcilik.
Onurhan Denizcilik told the story that Ocean Jasper stayed in its route because they were neither asked help nor let know about captain' death. Owner of Onurhan Denizcilik, Mehmet Gömüç explained that the crew of fishing vessel use drugs and they confess it.
Gömüç said that ship left the international route to repair hole, during repair process ship entered the France waters. He also underlined that there is no case on ship, freight or captain but himself and according to international law shipping companies can not be quilty. At the same time, he demonstrated that commercial ships can not be judged in the military courts but the Brest port that ship is helding is a military port. What is more, court doesnt even have the right to judge, it has only investigation right.
