Bunker tanker order gives Lindenau lifeline
The Lindenau shipyard in Kiel has received an order for a 540 dwt bunker tanker from transport and shipping company Reimers in Cuxhaven.
Although small, the order has thrown a lifeline to the yard, which entered into insolvency proceedings in 2008. It is the first newbuilding order received since then.
The value of the order was not disclosed.
Insolvency administrator Jan Wilhelm said the vessel would be delivered by next May.
?The order shows that we are right to focus on these special-purpose vehicles,? he said. ?This is an important cornerstone for the future of the yard.?
The design is based on that of the double-hull tankers previously built by Lindenau for Seychelles Petroleum, so the new vessel will be considerably smaller.
Last year, Lindenau delivered the largest double-hull tanker ever built in Germany, the 43,000 dwt Seapike for German Tanker Shipping.
