Seismic company Polarcus held a naming ceremony at Drydocks World Dubai for Polarcus Nadia and Polarcus Naila.
Seismic company Polarcus today held a naming ceremony at Drydocks World Dubai for Polarcus Nadia and Polarcus Naila.
These are the first of six seismic vessels of Ulstein X-bow design ordered in 2008 by Polarcus, a company started by many of the players involved in Eastern Echo. That was a similar seismic start up with six Ulstein design, X-bowed seismic vessels on order in Dubai. It was acquired at the end of 2007 by Schlumberger.
Polarcus Nadia and Polarcus Naila are to be delivered in 2009 and 2010. Both will be fitted with a 3D seismic system and 12 streamer winches. Polarcus Nadia is due to commence operating in December this year on its first assignment with TGS for a 2,000 sq. km long-offset 3D survey.
"Norway has a complete and expert environment in the seismic and offshore vessels segment. We believe in the Ulstein x-bow concept, especially when it comes to the environment. We also want the ship's crew to have good and safe working conditions, and we believe this design helps meet such requirements," says Polarcus«s executive VP Peter Zickerman.
Ulstein Group is delivering comprehensive design and main equipment packages for the six vessels, and is also producing and delivering main switchboards, bridge and control room consoles. The vessels will be equipped with an integrated automation system (Ulstein IAS), a communication and infotainment system (Ulstein Com), navigation system (Uulstein Nav) and power management system (Ulstein PMS).
