GEORGIA PORT POTI SET TO REOPEN
THE of Poti, Georgia's main import and export gateway, is set to reopen today following Russian bombing which killed 10 dockers and damaged its container berths.
The Moscow based news agency Trend Capital reports that Zviad Chkhartishvili, the head of the Poti"s Marketing & Investment Department, said to Trend Capital said by telephone today: ?I think that the port"s operation will be resumed after midday and a meeting on the issue will be held beforehand.?
However it is not clear whether Russian warships standing off Poti will allow ships to enter. Some reports says that inbound ships' cargoes will inspected. According to reports Russia has said it will continue to allow tankers to take oil cargoes out of Poti.
No damage to merchant vessels has been reported and it appears vessels had been moved to sea from the container terminal before is was bombed and severely damaged.
